The Lyric Theatre was opened in 1948 and served as Lexington's premier African American entertainment venue until 1963. The theatre was closed until 2010, when it reopened as the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. The facility now has a museum and art gallery, plus a multi-purpose room in addition to a 530 seat theatre. Music, movies, arts and culture in the historic East End of Lexington.
Soulful Space was founded in 2014 by Lexington musicians and music lovers seeking a space that was genuinely music centered. A completely unique experience for both, audience and performer. No Talking, no silverware and glasses clinking during a performance. Just a musician and a captive audience inside the Church of the Good Shepherd.
